Hey, Linda,

Stopped by your page, but wanted to give some advice here for all of us.

One of the biggest things I had to learn is to delegate and then give responsibility. If when Dad watches the kids, and there is a big mess, direct "them" to clean it up. Not in an exasperated way, but just remind them, that the whole idea is to give you more time, not more work. I don't know the ages of the children, but those early years are difficult. But, they will get older.

I am back in school, blog, do virtual volunteering and take part in several social communities. There are times I just can't make dinner or pick up things from the drugstore. I have learned to delegate and then walk away. If it is not perfectly done (hubby can barely cook!), as long as the children are happy, I am not looking at what went down in the kitchen. One bad meal will not kill them. This is how I have gotten through several blocks of classes so far.

I, too, am the great disciplinarian, but guess what? If Dad is a little laid back, this will not do so much damage. The goal here is to look up from the work once in a while and talk to them right when they are being quiet and good. Tell them how much they are helping you right now.

And, take breaks. Even mini ones. 15 minutes to read with them in the same room, being open to passing conversation. I have even stationed my computer set-up right outside of the living room, so I can hear the shows they are watching and make a random comments.

Staying on track and giving to the children will not always balance, but you can still have loved kids and a business.

Hope that helps a little. Let me know.

Hi I am Linda, Mompreneur and raising 4 and 6 year olds while running a home based makeup business. Working at home means focusing on my business all the time, less boundaries and less family time. My husband thinks "watching the kids" (i.e. tv) is helping me, so when he's in charge anything goes and it's a huge mess. I want more time with the kids when I'm not fussing at them to do what they need to do because I'm the only one that provides any discipline. I'm hoping to find support and learn from others how to cope.

My children are young men in college but I virtually raised them alone and single for the majority of their lives. I can relate. Just be Gumby and keep the faith.

Thank you to all for your warm friendship and love.
