Bills aren’t negative. For the majority part of my life I have felt like bills were negative. The main reason for this attitude could be blamed on my upbringing. I was always surrounded by people who complained about bills. I would hear, “I am so sick of bills.” “It seems like every time I get paid it all goes to bills.” “I only work to pay bills.” I was being fed all of this negative nonsense. In actuality bills aren’t negative; it’s that most people who complain about bills do not know how to manage their money. They are living beyond their means. They are paying for services and products that they don’t need. In actuality bills consist of paying for a service or a product that was given to you.
Bills are a choice. The bills that you are paying for are a choice. I have yet to understand why people complain about bills when it is a choice. You choose to get a cell phone. You choose to get a mortgage or pay rent. You choose to get that nice car and make car payments. You choose to get cable and have every channel that Cox or Dish Network offers. You choose to get credit cards. You choose to get loans. IT IS ALL A CHOICE. STOP COMPLAINING.
If bills are such an issue and a problem in your life stop purchasing things that you don’t want to pay for. Stop purchasing things and services you can’t afford.
Check your attitude. How do you feel when you pay your bills? Do you feel angry and mad that you have to give out your hard earned money? I used to be angry when I used to pay bills. I used to get tired of paying bills until I realized that I needed an attitude check. Everyone that I owed money to was a choice. I chose to purchase a cell phone. I chose to get cable. I chose to have the internet. I chose to go to college. I chose to apply for the credit card applications that came in the mail. Everything that I was paying for was a choice. Instead of paying bills with a spirit of ungratefulness I should be thankful.
• Thankful that I have the money to pay for these services.
• Thankful that I have a job so that I am able to receive money.
• Thankful that I have an opportunity because others don’t.
• Thankful just in general.
GUIDING U2 SUCCESS ASSIGNMENT:
1. Think about your attitude towards bills. How do you feel when you hear the word bills? How do you feel when you pay your bills? If you are feeling negative when you pay your bills, what about paying bills makes you feel this way? Is it your family, friends, or past experiences?
2. Check your attitude and eliminate the spirit of ungratefulness. If you are paying for services that you are unable to afford eliminate them.
3. Pay your bills with a spirit of gratitude. When you write out your checks or pay online with your debit card say THANK YOU. Thank the service provider. Thank God that He has blessed you with the money to pay for those services.
